HONOLULU, Hawaii -- It took the defending NCAA Champs and top-ranked UCLA Bruins to hand the No. 11 Pepperdine women's soccer team its first loss of the year, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in Hawaii.

Pepperdine had chances early, but couldn't convert before the vaunted UCLA defense locked down and held the Waves without a shot until the second half. The Bruins snuck scores past the Waves' Hannah Seabert (Riverside, Calif./Woodcrest Christian HS ) early in both halves to grab the victory.

The Waves were trying to become the first team to not only beat UCLA this year, but the first team this season to score on the Bruins.

Pepperdine was first to threaten in the contest as Lynn Williams (Fresno, Calif./Bullard HS) put two shots on goal within the first five minutes of play, but the Bruin's keeper, Katelyn Rowland, made both saves.

UCLA struck back, getting their first score in the 13th minute as Darian Jenkins poked the ball home from just outside the eight-yard box. It was the first goal the Waves had allowed in their last four games, ending the team's scoreless streak at 397 minutes.

Seabert was able to keep the Waves close and the Bruins out of the net again heading into the half, making three saves in the first period.

The Bruins struck again in the 63rd minute, taking a 2-0 lead when Sarah Killion headed in a ball from teammate Caprice Dydasco.

The Waves would try and make a push late and Jackie Pedrazza (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista HS) got a shot off in the 81st minute, but her attempt sailed high. It was the only shot Pepperdine could get off before the final whistle.

UCLA had seven shots on goal, with Seabert making four saves. The Waves had the two shots on target from Williams early. The Bruins were the first team this year to outshoot Pepperdine.

The loss drops the Waves to 4-1-1 on the season. UCLA improves to 5-0-1.

Pepperdine stays on the road this coming week as they will head east for games against Xavier on Sept. 11 and Kentucky on Sept. 14.
