Sept. 30, 2014 Final Results
ORLANDO, Fla. - Marissa Chow and Alina Ching posted top-20 finishes to lead the Pepperdine women's golf team as the Waves concluded the inaugural Annika Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
Playing as part of an elite 12-team field that included many of the nation's best teams, the Waves finished in 10th place with a three-day total of 877 (295-293-289) at the par-72 Watson Course at the Reunion Resort.
Pepperdine was the only school to post an improved score after each round, culminating in a 1-over 289 today. The Waves stayed ahead of Arizona State and Vanderbilt in the final standings. The last four national champions (UCLA, Alabama, USC and Duke) were among the five teams to finish directly in front of Pepperdine.
"We have enjoyed a great two-tournament trip over the past 10 days with a win and a solid finish against the best teams in the country," Pepperdine Coach Laurie Gibbs said. "There are many positives that our players can take away from these last two events. We are looking forward to our next six tournaments in California and coming back to Florida in May to compete in the NCAA Championships."
Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS), a junior who was a Golfweek All-American third team selection last year, went under par for the second straight day. She finished in a tie for 11th place with a 1-under 215 (74-70-71). Chow had three birdies on the day and closed her round with eight straight pars. Chow has been the Waves' top finisher at all three events this season and was medalist at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.
Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School), a senior, posted her second straight top-20 finish as she tied for 18th place with a 1-over 217 (73-71-73). Her final round began with 11 straight pars and she finished with one birdie.
Freshman Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia/Shenton College) bounced back with a 1-under 71 and moved up 10 spots and into a tie for 34th place at 221 (71-79-71). She had three birdies during her round, and now has gone below par in four of her last six rounds.
Senior Somin Lee (Denver, Colo./Overland HS) took 54th place at 231 (80-77-74) and freshman Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C./Zhuji Hailiang Private School) tied for 55th at 232 (77-75-80).
