ORLANDO, Fla. - Marissa Chow and Alina Ching shot below-par rounds and made big moves up the leaderboard to lead the Pepperdine women's golf team during Monday's second round of the inaugural Annika Intercollegiate.
Playing as part of an elite 12-team field that includes many of the nation's best teams, the Waves are in 10th place with a two-day total of 588 (295-293) at the par-72 Watson Course at the Reunion Resort. The third and final round is on Tuesday.
Pepperdine was one of just four schools to post an improved score during the second round. The Waves played outstanding golf early in the day, as their four scoring players were at a combined 4-under after each had played 11 holes. However, things got a little more difficult over the final seven holes.
Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS), a junior, made the largest move of any player in the tournament, rising 23 spots and into a tie for 12th place with an even-par 144 (74-70). Chow shot 2-under on the day with three birdies against just one bogey.
Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School), a senior, also made a great leap up the leaderboard (16 spots) and is also tied for 12th place with an even-par 144 (73-71). Ching's 1-under featured three birdies, including two on her final two holes.
Freshman Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia/Shenton College) is tied for 44th place at 150 (71-79), freshman Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C./Zhuji Hailiang Private School) is tied for 49th at 152 (77-75) and senior Somin Lee (Denver, Colo./Overland HS) is tied for 57th at 157 (80-77).
