FULLERTON, Calif. - It took 90 minutes of regulation and just under four minutes of overtime, but the No. 11 Pepperdine women's soccer team wrapped up non-conference play with a 1-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Thursday.

Lynn Williams (Fresno, Calif./Bullard HS) scored the game winning goal in overtime for the Waves, who move to 9-1-1 on the year.

Less than four minutes into the first overtime, Colby Carson (Morgan Hill, Calif./Valley Christian HS) collected a turnover at midfield and found Williams streaking up the center of the field. Williams corralled the pass and took a touch to her left, firing off a shot from the top of the box that found the back of the net just inside the right post for the game-winner.

It was the seventh goal of the year for Williams, who leads the team in that category, and a team-best fifth assist this season for Carson.

The Waves and Titans played scoreless through the first half, with the visiting Pepperdine squad creating the only chances of the first period.

Neither team took a shot through the first 25 minutes of play until Williams and Bri Visalli (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS) fired off two quick tries for the Waves that were blocked. Hailey Harbison (Rancho Penasquitos, Calif./Westview HS) put the only ball on target in the half, firing off an attempt in the 29th minute that the Titan keeper had to snag. Williams tried to get Pepperdine on the board before the half, firing off a shot that went just high in the 43rd minute.

Williams had the most dangerous chance of the second half in the 60th minute when she got to a ball played deep into the box and had only the goalie to beat. She took a shot on her first touch, but Jennifer Stuart came up with the one-handed save for CSUF. The Waves would fire off six more chances in the half, including an open shot by Harbison that went up and over the crossbar with 11 minutes to play in the half.

In all, the Waves outshot CSUF 12-6 in the game, putting five shots on goal. The Titans put two shots on target, with Hannah Seabert (Riverside, Calif./Woodcrest Christian HS) making both saves. Williams had seven of the Pepperdine shots in the game, putting four on goal.

The loss drops the Titans to 2-6-2 on the year.

Pepperdine's 9-1-1 start is the program's best start since 2005, when the team went 9-0-2 to start the year. The Waves open WCC play next week when they host Santa Clara for a 3 p.m. game on Oct. 3.
