MALIBU, Calif. - Final college baseball rankings were released this week and the Pepperdine baseball team finished the season ranked as high as No. 12 in the country.
Of the four major ranking outlets, the Waves finished the season rated No. 12 by three of them and No. 14 by one. The NCBWA, Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball all have Pepperdine ranked 12th in the country, while the USA Today Coaches Poll has the Waves at No. 14.
The No. 12 final ranking is the highest the Waves have finished a season since their NCAA Championship season in 1992, when they ended the year as the No. 1 team in the country.
Pepperdine finished the 2014 season with a 43-18 overall record and an 18-9 mark in WCC play. The Waves made their first NCAA Super Regional since the round was instituted in 1999 after winning the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Regional. It was the Waves' first regional win since 1992.
The team won its 17th WCC regular-season title this year and swept through the WCC tournament to secure the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Waves were at least receiving votes in the national rankings in all but two weeks this season, climbing as high as No. 11 in the polls.
