MALIBU, Calif. - Aaron Brown picked up his fourth All-American award today when he was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association first team. It is the junior's first time being named to the first team after previously receiving three second-team honors this year.
Brown is one of 18 players to earn All-American first team honors from the ABCA as he made the list as both an outfielder and left-handed pitcher. He is the first Wave since Jay Gehrke in 1999 to earn first-team honors from the ABCA. Joe Sever is the last ABCA All-American for the Waves as he was named to the organization's second team in 2012.
Brown posted a 13-1 record on the mound this year, with a 1.95 ERA, 104 strikeouts and just 40 walks. He hit .314 with a team-high 49 RBI on the season and slugged .554 with 29 extra-base hits. Brown led the WCC with 13 homers and had 13 doubles and three triples as well. He also scored 44 runs and stole five bases while starting all 61 games for the Waves this year.
He has also earned All-American second team honors from Collegiate Baseball, Perfect Game and the NCBWA. Brown was named WCC Pitcher of the Year this season and garnered two conference Pitcher of the Week honors and one national Pitcher of the Week honor. He was also named WCC Tournament MVP and NCAA Regional MVP after leading the Waves to a victory in the San Luis Obispo Regional.
Brown was at his best in the postseason, going 3-0 and giving up just one earned run in 23.0 innings pitched (0.39 ERA). He earned Regional MVP honors after giving up just three hits and one unearned run in 8.0 innings against Cal Poly to help the Waves advance past their first NCAA Regional round since 1992. In the NCAA Super Regional Brown tossed 7.0 scoreless innings in a win over TCU and hit one homer, two doubles and drove in a pair of runs over the course of the series.
The junior lefty was selected in the third round (No. 81 overall) of this year's MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies.
