PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's golf team ended the fall season on a strong note, shooting a 6-under 278 in the third and final round of the Stanford Intercollegiate on Sunday. Alina Ching and Marissa Chow both tied for fourth place, while the Waves were sixth as a team.

Pepperdine finished with a 3-over 855 (286-291-278) at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course. All five teams that finished ahead of the #12 Waves are ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 10. The 6-under was Pepperdine's second-best round of the season and it tied for the third-best round of the day behind co-champions USC and Stanford.

Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) and Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS) both finished with 5-under 208s. Chow shot a 4-under 67 on Sunday - tied for the second-best round by any player in the field on Sunday - while Ching ended with a 3-under 68.

Chow (69-72-67), a junior who was a Golfweek All-American third teamer last season, wrapped up her fall season with a 70.75 scoring average (which is on pace to break the school record). She placed in the top six in three of her four tournaments (winning the Golfweek Conference Challenge) and finished no worse than a tie for 11th, while eight of her 12 rounds were below par. On Sunday, Chow had five birdies against just one early bogey.

Ching (67-73-68), a senior, continued a resurgence that saw her post a third consecutive top-20 result. The tie for fourth place was her best since finishing in a tie for third at the 2013 West Coast Conference Championships. After a couple of early bogeys on Sunday, Ching was flawless over the final 13 holes. She posted five birdies during that time, including three consecutive on holes 13, 14 and 15. The 5-under over 54 holes was a collegiate best for Ching.

"I am very proud of the team for shooting one of the low rounds of the tournament today and finishing out a great fall at Stanford," Pepperdine Coach Laurie Gibbs said. "Alina and Marissa played outstanding against a top field of players."

Freshman Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia/Shenton College) tied for 31st place with a 3-over 216 (71-73-72), senior Somin Lee (Denver, Colo./Overland HS) tied for 65th at 155 (80-75-71) and sophomore Alessandra Arza (Asuncion, Paraguay/Asuncion Christian Academy) was 82nd at 233 (79-73-81). Lee's even-par round on Sunday included three birdies.

The Waves will return to the links when the spring season begins at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in nearby Palos Verdes, Calif., on February 8-10.
