NORMAN, Okla. - Pepperdine led late and added much needed insurance in a 7-2 victory against No. 10 Oklahoma Saturday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. With the win, the Waves (7-4) set up a rubber match Sunday against the previously unbeaten Sooners (10-1).

Nate Johnson (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo HS) continued his hot series, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Chris Amezquita (La Mirada, Calif./UCLA) went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Leading 3-2 entering the ninth inning, Pepperdine rallied for four runs with two outs. Bryan Langlois (Oak Park, Calif./Oak Park HS) reached on an error, advanced to second on a wild pitch followed by a walk issued to Cody Nulph (Orange, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS). After a Waves strikeout, Hutton Moyer (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) earned an RBI on a fielder's choice for the first run of the frame.

The Sooners went to the pen and with two aboard and two outs, the stage was set for Austin Davidson (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS). The sophomore infielder ripped an 0-1 pitch to right field for a three-run homer to make the score 7-2 Pepperdine. It was the fourth career homer for Davidson and his first hit against the Sooners in the series.

It was the second straight game the Waves recorded a three-run home run. Sam Meyer (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis HS) accomplished the feat in game one.

Michael Swanner (Cardiff, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth and recorded a pair of strikeouts to secure the victory.

Corey Miller (Laguna Nigel, Calif./Serra HS) was impressive in the win, going 6.1 innings, allowing two runs off eight hits with two strikeouts and one walk. It was the 10th career victory for Miller (2-1). Gray (2-1) suffered the loss for Oklahoma, allowing three runs off five hits with seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings.

Pepperdine led from the opening inning, scoring two runs with two outs in the first. Davidson walked and the Waves had runners at second and third after Amezquita doubled to left. Johnson followed with a two-run double to left center to give the Waves the early advantage.

Oklahoma scored single runs in the third and fifth with Matt Oberste doing the damage in both frames. The Sooner infielder, who finished a double shy of the cycle, hit a one-out triple in the third and scored on sacrifice fly. Oberste then homered to left with one away in the fifth.

Miller rose to the challenge and pitched out trouble with two runners aboard in the sixth. Eric Karch (Fresno, Calif./Clovis West HS) tossed 1.2 innings of one-hit relief and struck out one in a 3-2 game.

Pepperdine wraps up its seven-game road trip when it takes on Oklahoma in the rubber match Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. First pitch against the Sooners is set for 11:00 a.m. (PT) in a game broadcast live on Fox Sports Southwest Plus.
