Men's Basketball Falls to SMC in Home Finale

The Waves (12-16, 4-11 WCC) didn't shoot better than 25% in either half and ended up at a season-low 24.5%. The Gaels (25-5, 13-2 WCC) made 51.6% of their shots and had a huge advantages of 47-30 on the boards and 42-18 in points in the paint.
Freshman guard Stacy Davis (Laveen, Ariz./Fairfax HS) had team highs of 12 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Jordan Baker (Tempe, Ariz./Tempe HS) added 11 points. Playing in his final home contest, senior guard Lorne Jackson (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley HS) moved into Pepperdine's career top five by playing in his 123rd career game. He finished with seven points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
The Gaels entered the national rankings for the first time this season in the USA Today Coaches Poll after beating BYU and Creighton last week. Looking to protect their NCAA Tournament hopes, the Gaels never trailed and never let up after taking a double-digit lead less than nine minutes in. SMC went up 36-19 at halftime and continued to increase its lead throughout the second half.
SMC's Matthew Dellavedova entered the game needing 29 points to become the school's all-time leading scorer and he almost got there tonight before finishing with 25.
