Waves Outlast Santa Clara, Moves on to WCC Tournament Finals

SAN DIEGO - The #38 Pepperdine women's tennis team defeated Santa Clara 4-1 in the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament. The Waves face #71 San Diego in the championship match on Saturday.
Pepperdine swept the Broncos in doubles action to open the day. Megan Moore (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) and Ale Granillo (Pachuca, Mexico/Instituto Hidalgo) disposed of Brittany Warly and Stephanie Skaras, 8-3.
Lorraine Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) and Khunpak Issara (Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School) edged Katie Le and Jessica Agra, 8-6, while Ali Walters (Newport Beach, Calif./Creekside Christian HS/UCLA) and Arianna Colffer (Corona, Calif./Buena Vista) mirrored that same score against Kelly Lamble and Kacie Wagner.
In singles, Issara topped Le 6-3, 6-3. Le is the top ranked singles player in the WCC at #49, while Issara follows at #63.
Walters cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Agra, while Moore capped the day with a 6-2, 6-4 decision versus Skaras.
Santa Clara avoided the sweep with a win on court two.
Pepperdine contends for its ninth championship in 10 seasons tomorrow, April 28, at 12:30 p.m. Overall, the program has captured 22 tournament titles. In the regular season meeting between the Waves and the Toreros, Pepperdine won 7-0.
