Pepperdine Finishes Regular Season Undefeated in WCC Play

PROVO, Utah - The #7 Pepperdine men's tennis team concluded the regular season with a 6-1 rout against #52 BYU. The Waves are a perfect 8-0 in the West Coast Conference heading into next week's league championship tournament.
The Waves, 21-6 overall, captured a closely contested doubles point before taking five of the six singles matches.
Although the Cougars' (14-8, 4-3 WCC) Georgy Batrakov and Patrick Kawka earned the win in the No. 1 match, Pepperdine claimed the remaining matches by scores of 8-6.
Sebastian Fanselow (Essen, Germany/Kaplan College Prep) and Jenson Turner (Woodland Hills, Calif./Campbell Hall HS) edged Francis Sargeant and Spencer Smith, while Hugh Clarke (Brisbane, Australia/Brisbane Boys College) and David Sofaer (Bellevue Hill, Australia/Sydney Distance Education HS) defeated Keaton Cullimore and Michael Eraso.
In singles, Clarke put the Waves up 2-0 after a straight-set triumph against Sargeant. BYU answered with a win on court two, but was unable to put any more points on the board the rest of the afternoon.
Fanselow, ranked #9 in singles by the ITA, downed Spencer Smith 6-3, 6-3, while Alex Llompart (Carolina, Puerto Rico/San Juan Educational School) topped #97-ranked Kawka 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. Llompart's win was the senior's third of the season over a ranked opponent and 12th overall consecutive win.
Fanselow brings a 14 match win streak in singles into postseason play.
Turner turned in a three-set victory against Eraso, and Hovhannisyan wrapped up the day with a 6-2, 5-7, 10-7 decision against Cullimore.
Next up for the Waves is the WCC Tournament on April 26-28 in San Diego, Calif.
