KAPALUA, Maui, Hawaii - Freshman Alina Ching of the Pepperdine women's golf team returned to her home state and posted her second second-place finish in the last three events, leading the Waves on Tuesday at the `Anuenue Spring Break Classic.

Hampered by having only four healthy players in the lineup and unable to throw out the low score, the Waves finished sixth with a total of 919 (298-307-314) at the par-72 Kapalua Bay Golf Course. Three of the five teams that finished ahead of the Waves are ranked in Golfstat's top 15 (Pepperdine is 19th).

This was the third top-five finish in four spring tournaments for Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School), who placed second at the Bruin Wave Invitational and fifth at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. She began the third round in second place and stayed there after a 77, giving her a total of a 2-over 218 (69-72-77).

Additionally, sophomore Liv Cheng (Auckland, New Zealand) tied for 28th place at 231 (73-75-83), and both senior Kaitlin Drolson (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) and freshman Somin Lee (Denver, Colo./Overland HS) tied for 38th place at 235. Drolson shot 77-78-80 and Lee finished strong at 79-82-74.

Sophomore Danielle Gillaspy (Santa Maria, Calif./St. Joseph's HS), playing as an individual, tied for 52nd place at 241 (83-78-80).

The Waves were without sophomore All-American Grace Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS), who withdrew during her first round on Monday after reaggravating a wrist injury. She did not compete again on Tuesday.

This was Pepperdine's last tune-up before the West Coast Conference Championships, set for April 16-18 at the San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister, Calif. The Waves will be going for their 11th consecutive league crown.
