CLAREMONT, Calif. - Three Pepperdine school records were reset on a cold and chilly afternoon at the 25th-annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational held Saturday at the Strehle Track on the campus of Pomona College. Senior Aneka Myles finished her career with improved marks in the shot put and discus, while the 4x100m relay lowered its school record for the third time this season.
"This has been a successful season for our teams," head coach Robert Radnoti said. "Aneka put in some extra time on her own wanting to go out in style and she did so by winning her flights in each event, and coach (Melvin) Jones has done a tremendous job with the sprinters over the past four years with Bridgette, Brittany and Amanda. But adding Natasha (Hamlin) this year has helped the group go faster than ever."
In the shot put, Myles (Victorville, Calif./Silverado HS) recorded a toss of 36 feet, 4.25 inches (11.08m), which topped her old record of 35-9 that was set at last year's Cal State Northridge Invitational. And in the discus, the senior posted a distance of 117-2 (35.71), a mark that was six feet and one inch better than her old school record of 111-1 that was first established two years ago at this same meet.
The 4x100m team of Bridgette Walker (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor HS), Natasha Hamlin (Arcadia, Calif./Mayfield Senior School), Brittany Clark (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach HS) and Amanda Ajdari (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS) placed third overall with a school record time of 48.22 seconds.
The record in this race at the season's start was 49.33, but this same group dropped it down to 49.12 at the Westmont Quadrangular and then to 48.89 at last weekend's Cal Poly Invitational.
