Pepperdine Fights off Badgers, Wins 6-1

MALIBU, Calif. - The #11 Pepperdine men's tennis team lost just one match in its 6-1 victory over Wisconsin today at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The Waves have won eight of their last nine duals and improve to 13-3 on the season.
Pepperdine swept the doubles point beginning with an 8-4 victory on court two. Sebastian Fanselow (Essen, Germany/Kaplan College Prep) and Jenson Turner (Woodland Hills, Calif./Campbell Hall HS) topped Ricardo Martin and Rodney Carey to protect their perfect 12-0 dual season record.
Hugh Clarke (Brisbane, Australia/Brisbane Boys College) and Alfredo Moreno (Queretaro, Mexico/JFK School) teamed up for the first time in dual match play to beat Fredrik Ask and Petr Satral, 8-3.
Finn Tearney (Wellington, New Zealand/Wellington College) and Alex Llompart (Carolina, Puerto Rico/San Juan Educational School) secured the sweep with an 8-5 win over #66-ranked Billy Bertha and Marek Michalicka.
Fanselow quickly put Pepperdine's second team point in the books, giving up just one game in his straight-set victory versus Bertha.
Llompart followed suit with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Martin, before Moreno clinched the match on court four.
Both Tearney and Alejandro Moreno (Queretaro, Mexico/JFK School) found their respective matches go to a third set. With the dual decided, they elected to play in a tiebreaker.
In the first-to-10 point battle, Tearney went on a 6-0 run before Michalicka was able to put a point on the board. The deficit was too much for the #72-ranked Badger, as Tearney cruised to a 10-3 victory to claim the match.
Moreno's tiebreaker played a little bit closer, but the senior was able to gain the advantage and win 10-7.
The Waves conclude this week's three-match home stand against #7 Texas A&M at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
