Future Wave Honored for On-Court Conduct

Feb. 25, 2011

MALIBU, Calif. - Lorraine Guillermo, who signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Pepperdine women's tennis squad this fall, has already built an impressive resume as a junior player. The list of accolades continues to grow for the future Wave, as she was recently honored as the Evelyn Houseman Junior Sportsmanship Award winner.

The award, given by the Southern California Tennis Association (SCTA), is considered one of the highest honors given to a junior tennis player and is awarded to who show exemplary conduct while participating in the programs of the SCTA and the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

"This is an extreme honor and privilege," remarked Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS). "Sportsmanship means a great deal to me.  I believe the way a person acts on the court indicates one's character off the court.

"I couldn't have gotten to where I am without the support my dad - and coach --, my mother and brother.  I would also like to thank the SCTA, the referees and the countless others that have taken part in my tennis career."

As a winner of the Evelyn Houseman Junior Sportsmanship Award, Guillermo was given a life membership to the USTA and will be honored at the SCTA Annual Meeting on March 7 located at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the UCLA campus.

Guillermo was ranked as high as #8 on tennisrecruiting.net's list of top recruits for the Class of 2011 and is currently ranked #13 in the nation (#6 in Southern California).
