MALIBU, Calif. - Freshman forward Lynn Williams was named to Soccer America's All-Freshman first team, as announced today. Williams represented the West Coast Conference on the 11-player first team and was only one of two WCC freshmen named to either the first or second teams.
Williams (Fresno, Calif./Bullard HS) was named the WCC Freshman of the Year and an All-WCC selection in 2011. She started in 19 of 20 games for the Waves this season, scoring six goals while adding a team-leading 11 assists.
Williams was an integral part of the Waves success this year, as they went 15-2-4, including a 17 game unbeaten streak to set a school record. She helped the Waves win a share of the WCC title for the first time since 2002 and earn the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005.
Individually, Williams made for some memorable moments for the WCC champion Waves this season. On August 26 at Cal State Fullerton, Williams scored the game-tying goal with 44 seconds left in overtime. She followed that up with the game-winner in the seventh minute of the first sudden death overtime to give the Waves the 2-1 victory. She finished second on the team with two game-winning goals.
Williams was also named to the NSCAA All-West Region second team earlier this month.
