MALIBU, Calif. - Mychel Thompson and Jonathan Dupre', two members of last season's Pepperdine men's basketball team, were picked in the NBA Development League Draft on Thursday.
Thompson was selected in the third round (38th overall) by the Erie BayHawks. Dupre' was chosen in the eighth round (125th overall) by the Maine Red Claws.
"It's great that Mychel and Jonathan were recognized by these teams for what they did in their college careers and that they have the chance to begin playing professionally," Pepperdine Coach Marty Wilson said. "Pepperdine has put a lot of great players in the pros over the years and we're proud of these two guys for adding to that legacy."
Thompson (Portland, Ore./Stoneridge Prep) earned All-West Coast Conference honorable mention honors as both a junior and senior. He ended his career #14 on Pepperdine's all-time scoring list with 1,413 points, and appeared in more games (128) than any other player in school history. On other school records lists, he finished third in minutes played (3,722), fourth in three-pointers made (192) and fourth in steals (145). His career averages were 11.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals in 29.1 minutes, and he was a career 76.0% free throw shooter.
Dupre' (Houston, Texas/Collin County CC) played three seasons for Pepperdine after transferring in. He averaged 5.5 points and 2.9 rebounds in 18.1 minutes over the course of 81 games.
Sixteen teams will begin the D-League's 11th season of existence on November 25.
