AUSTIN, Texas - The Pepperdine men's golf team ended up in 10th place at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate after a final-round 309 on Tuesday.
The Waves shot a total of 907 (299-299-309) while competing against a strong field at the par-71 University of Texas Golf Club. Six of the teams that finished ahead of Pepperdine were in Golfstat's top 25. Georgia (878) rallied to win by one stroke over host Texas (879).
Senior Carl Smith (Laguna Beach, Calif./Santa Margarita HS) led the Waves individually as he tied for 26th place at 22 (75-71-79).
Senior Shane Mason (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine HS) tied for 44th place at 228 (75-78-75), junior Andrew Putnam (University Place, Wash./Life Christian Academy) tied for 58th place at 232 (73-80-79) and junior Andrew Widmar (El Paso, Texas/Cathedral HS) tied for 63rd place at 234 (76-79-79). Mason had three birdies as his 75 was the best round of the day by the Waves.
Sophomore Josh Anderson (Temecula, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS), who missed Monday's first round, had a total of 147 (71-76) in his two rounds.
Pepperdine doesn't wait long for its next tournament, as the Waves take part in the Stanford U.S. Intercollegiate this Sunday through Tuesday (April 11-13). It's the final regular-season tournament for the Waves.
