Men's Golf Ties for Eighth at Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's golf team finished its final regular-season event with a tie for eighth place at the Stanford U.S. Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

After rain plagued the first two rounds, good weather led to improved scores during Tuesday's third and final round at the par-70 Stanford Golf Course. Although the Waves weren't able to move up after starting the day in eighth place, they shot a 1-under 279 to give them a total of 855 (287-289-279), tied with San Jose State.

Junior Andrew Putnam (University Place, Wash./Life Christian Academy) had his best finish since early March and his fourth top 10 result of the season. He tied for eighth place with a 2-under 208 (68-69-71) after going 1-over during his final round. He had one birdie, a double-bogey and 16 pars on Tuesday.

Sophomore Josh Anderson (Temecula, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) ended up in a tie for 24th place after shooting an even-par 70. He had a 3-over 213 (71-72-70) for the tournament. His final round included an eagle on the par-5 16th hole and two birdies.

Senior Carl Smith (Laguna Beach, Calif./Santa Margarita HS) tied for 38th place at 216. He improved his score by one stroke after each round (73-72-71). He had three birdies as he was 1-over in the last round.

The best round of the tournament for Pepperdine was turned in by senior Shane Mason (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine HS), who had a 3-under 67 on Tuesday. That moved him up 26 spots in the standings and into a tie for 57th place at 221 (78-76-67). He had a total of six birdies during his round.

Junior Austyn Karle (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) tied for 83rd place at 227 (75-79-73) and had three birdies during his final round.

Pepperdine competes in the West Coast Conference Championships next week (April 19-20) in Vallejo, Calif.
