Men's Golf Posts Strong Finish to Fall Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Pepperdine men's golf team posted a strong finish to its fall season on Sunday as the Waves moved up to eighth place at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate.
The Waves began the third and final round in a tie for 12th place at the par-72 Forest Oaks Country Club but fired a 1-under 287 for the second straight round to move up four spots with a final total of a 3-over 867 (293-287-287).
Senior Andrew Putnam (University Place, Wash./Life Christian Academy) was below par for the second straight round, allowing him to get into the top 20. His 1-under 71, which included four birdies, gave him a 2-under 214 (73-70-71) and a tie for 16th place. It's the 32nd top 20 result of his career, giving him sole possession of second place on Pepperdine's all-time list.
Senior Andrew Widmar (El Paso, Texas/Cathedral HS) had a tremendous day, recording a 4-under 68 that moved him up 35 spots in the standings and into a tie for 30th place with a 1-over 217 (76-73-68). He had a total of seven birdies during his round, including three straight at one point.
Sophomore Johnny Mac Arthur (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS) tied for 45th place at 220 (73-74-73), junior Josh Anderson (Temecula, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) tied for 51st place at 221 (75-71-75) and freshman Chris Capo (Woodland Hills, Calif./Crespi Carmelite HS) tied for 68th place at 227 (77-72-77). Capo was playing in his first collegiate tournament.
The Waves return to the links at the Arizona Intercollegiate on January 31 and February 1.
