Men's Golf's Second Round Stopped by Lightning

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A lightning delay eventually forced the stoppage of the second round on Friday for the Pepperdine men's golf team and 16 other squads at the season-opening William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico.

The Waves, who were a little more than halfway through their round, are currently tied with Baylor for third place at 2-under. UNLV leads the tournament at 16-under and San Diego State is 9-under.

The second round will pick up where it left off on Saturday (Sept. 12), with the third and final round to follow immediately at the par-72 UNM Championship Course.

Junior Andrew Putnam (University Place, Wash./Life Christian Academy) is tied for 10th place at 2-under, sophomore Josh Anderson (Temecula, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) is tied for 17th place at even-par, seniors Shane Mason (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine HS) and Carl Smith (Laguna Beach, Calif./Santa Margarita HS) are both tied for 21st place at 1-over and junior Austyn Karle (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) is tied for 41st at 3-over.

The Waves were in second place at the conclusion of the first round, as they shot a 1-under 287 in the morning. The first-round scores were Putnam at 70, Anderson and Mason at 72, Karle at 73 and Smith at 75.
