MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine seniors Sophia Medina and Kelly Reilly and sophomore Michelle Spacciapolli were recently named to National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) All-West Region Squad.
Reilly (Cardiff, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) was one of three midfielders named to the region's second team, while Medina (Downey, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) and Spacciapolli (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) were tabbed to the third team as forwards.
The Waves' three NSCAA honorees are their most since 2002 when Ashley Swanson was named to the All-West Region Second Team and Susan Palmer and Daniella Bosio were placed on the third team.
Medina led Pepperdine in 2009 with 11 points on five goals and one assist, and four of her goals were game-winners. Her nine career game-winning goals tie her for fourth most in team history with Ali Pavoni.
Medina left as the Waves' No. 14 all-time scorer with 37 points (14 goals, nine assists) and did it all on just 87 shots.
Reilly, a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Second Team honoree, totaled six points this season on two goals and two assists from the defensive midfield position. Her goals against Tennessee and Houston both served as game-winners.
Spacciapolli scored nine points in her first year wearing a Waves' uniform. She transferred to Pepperdine last spring after spending her freshman season at Boston College.
