Waves Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Pink Caps

Head coach Steve Rodriguez knows of at least four families, including his own, who have been affected by the disease and wanted the Waves to do their part in raising awareness.
“Everyone on the club either knows someone or the family of someone, who has dealt with, survived or died from breast cancer,” he said. “This is a disease that affects one in eight women – that includes our wives, moms, sisters and other relatives – so we need to help create awareness and find a cure.”

“I didn’t know what the players’ reaction was going to be at first, but their excitement tells me this will be a successful campaign,” Rodriguez said. “I’m sure it’s different for guys to be wearing the pink caps, but they know the reasons behind it and are proud to wear them.”
A limited number of pink caps will be available for sale in the Pepperdine Athletics Department office at Heritage Hall beginning Oct. 1. The hats are priced at $40 with proceeds going to breast cancer awareness.
