Rupp and Heck Reap Weekly Soccer Awards

MALIBU, Calif. Â Amanda Rupp and Lacey Heck of the Pepperdine women’s soccer team collected several national awards this week in recognition of their efforts during the Waves’ 2-0 weekend vs. #23 Tennessee and Washington State.

Pepperdine defeated the Lady Vols 2-0 last Friday and blanked the Cougars 1-0 on Sunday.

Rupp (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) was one of five forwards nationally to be named to the Soccer Buzz Magazine Elite Team of the Week, and was one of three tabbed to the Soccer America Team of the Week.

Rupp, a senior, extended her consecutive-game point streak to five with an insurance goal in the 86th minute vs. Tennessee and crossed a game-winning assist to Sophia Medina (Downey, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) against WSU.

Rupp’s goal against UT was her fourth in as many games. She leads Pepperdine with nine points.

Heck (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson HS), who was honored earlier this week as the West Coast Conference’s Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, also was voted by TopDrawerSoccer.com as its Player of the Week.

In her first weekend as Pepperdine’s starting goalkeeper, Heck pitched back-to-back shutouts and combined for seven saves in the two appearances. The freshman was greatly helped by her team of defenders, which limited Tennessee to 12 shots and Washington State to only five.

The Waves’ victories pushed their record to .500 at 3-3-1 and earned them a mention in one national and two regional polls. Pepperdine climbed into Soccer Buzz Magazine’s West Region Top 15 for the first time this season with a #12 ranking, and picked up six votes in the Sept. 15 edition of the SoccerTimes.com Top 25 College Coaches Poll.

Pepperdine also received votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas West Region Top 10 poll.

The Waves make their first road trip of 2008 this weekend with matches Friday and Sunday at Wisconsin and Marquette, respectively. Pepperdine kicks off against the Badgers at 5 p.m. PT and the Golden Eagles at 12:15 p.m. PT.
