“After an impressive 2008 campaign, the Waves enter the offseason confident about the upcoming season,” said Rivals.Com college baseball editor Kendall Rogers. “The Waves must find a way to replace position players Chase d’Arnaud and Eric Thames, but welcome back a bulk of their key contributors – especially on the mound. Before the 2008 season it seemed like right-handed pitcher Brett Hunter definitely would be a top two-round pick in the MLB Draft. After an injury sidelined him for much of the season, Hunter was drafted in the seventh round, and likely will return for his senior campaign. If that happens, Hunter would spearhead an exceptional pitching staff. The Waves also welcome back Nate Newman, Scott Alexander, Matt Bywater and closer Nick Gaudi, who recorded 15 saves in 29 appearances this past season. Offensively, the Waves expect more production from Trent Diedrich, Denny Duron, Bryce Mendonca and Ryan Heroy, among others. Pepperdine also expects immediate contributions from newcomers Brian Humphries and Nathan Johnson.”
According to Rivals.com,
“It’s great knowing the majority of the starting lineup is coming back,” said Head Pepperdine Baseball Coach Steve Rodriguez. “It’s always an honor to be selected in the early polls, however we still have to get out there and play the game the way it’s suppose to be played and do our part on the field. If the returners and the incoming freshmen come out and do what they’re suppose to do we should have a very successful year.”
