Sardinha went 0-for-4 in his Tigers’ debut against the St. Louis Cardinals. This season marks the third different year Sardinha has appeared in the majors, as he was a member of the Cincinnati Reds in 2003 and 2005. Sardinha is one of six former Waves standouts in the major leagues, joining Randy Wolf (San Diego Padres), Dan Haren (Arizona Diamondbacks), Noah Lowry (San Francisco Giants), David Newhan (Houston Astros) and Will Ohman (Atlanta Braves).
Sardinha was a two-time All-American as a member with the Waves, earning third team honors in 1999 before being named a first-team All-American in 2000. The WCC Player of the Year in 2000, Sardinha holds the Waves career record for home runs with 45. After his junior season, Sarinha was selected in the second round of the 2000 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Reds.
