Seven Waves Earn All-Conference Accolades

Wynne was Pepperdine’s lone selection to the All-WCC Second Team, while Hire and Stolte were both named All-WCC Honorable Mention.
Cole and Stockman were double award winners, as both were tabbed to the honorable mention and all-freshman squads. Four previous Waves (Hire, Sophia Medina, Cammie Burke and Kylie McDonald) have also received honorable mention and all-freshman citations in the same season.
The All-WCC teams were selected by the conference’s seven head coaches.
Pepperdine’s seven honorees tied a program record that was first established in 2002 and again in 2007. Its two first-team selections were its most since 2005 (Lindsey Redlin and Megan Woods).
The Waves also placed two student-athletes on the All-WCC first team in 1996 (Jennifer Evans and Jennifer Peterson), 2002 (Susan Palmer and Ashley Swanson) and 2004 (Ashley Swanson, Megan Woods).
Copp’s first team selection is just the second conference award of her career as she was previously a WCC All-Freshman honoree in 2005.
Copp received the start at midfield in 19 of 20 games this season and contributed a career high 10 points on three goals and four assists. Five of those points were scored during the final three games of 2008, scoring the game-winner against Saint Mary’s, and providing a total of three assists in wins over
Rupp, a 2007 All-WCC Honorable Mention, went on to produce one of the best all-around seasons in Waves’ history as she compiled 12 goals and eight assists for 32 points.
Her point total, which tied Kristi DeVert for the third highest season total at Pepperdine, also ranked her as the #1 scorer in the WCC at the end of the regular season.
What’s most amazing about Rupp’s productivity was that she scored a bulk of her points coming off the bench. Rupp started six of 20 matches and earned 1384 minutes of playing time (an average of 70 minutes per match).
Rupp earned national recognition earlier this season following Pepperdine’s undefeated weekend over #23
Rupp’s insurance goal in the 86th minute vs. the Lady Vols and game-winning assist to Sophia Medina (Downey, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) against the Cougars earned her spots on the Soccer Buzz Magazine and Soccer America Teams of the Week.
A match after her scoring streak was snapped (a scoreless tie at
Wynne, like Rupp, found her name listed among the WCC leaders at the conclusion of the regular season. Her conference leading 71 shots were eight more than runner-up Megan Rapinoe of
Additionally, the senior was only one of two Waves to appear and start in all 20 matches as she finished third on the club with 12 points. Season highlights for Wynne included a two-assist day vs. Northwestern and a three-point outing at Gonzaga.
Wynne leaves Pepperdine with 21 assists, which is the fourth highest career total in club history behind Lacey Ubaldi (24), Kristi Bissonnette (23) and Megan Woods (23).
Despite appearing in more than 40 matches over the past three seasons with 38 starts, Stolte had never been named to an All-WCC team prior to 2008. This fact is made more surprising when looking at her sophomore season totals of 11 wins, 91 saves, six shutouts and 0.93 goals-against average.
Stolte’s final statistics this season were quite comparable to 2006 as she finished with six shutouts and a 0.95 GAA. She also made 64 saves and came back to post a 7-7-2 record after suffering an early-season injury.
Four of Stolte’s victories and three of her shutouts came against conference opponents. Against nationally ranked opponents UCLA,
Hire completed her fifth season as a Wave with a goal and two assists for four points, while appearing in 19 matches at midfield. Her 18 starts established a career high and her 19 appearances matched her season total from a year ago.
Although Hire didn’t register a ton of offensive numbers, she did manage to score Pepperdine’s fastest goal of the season vs.
Hire also posted a two-assist performance in the Waves’ 6-0 win over
As a freshman, Cole finished second on the team to Rupp with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Her 14 points placed her in a four-way tie for seventh among the WCC leaders, and her six goals also ranked seventh in the conference at the conclusion of the regular season. Cole placed 20 of her 41 shots on goal (.488%) and was credited with the game-winners against
Stockman was one of only two Waves, along with Wynne, to appear and start in all 20 matches although she played more minutes than anyone else on the team with 1830. Stockman provided two assists, but made her name on a Pepperdine back line that blanked eight opponents, averaged 9.4 shots allowed per game and a 0.97 goals-against average.
In conference action, Stockman’s defensive efforts helped Stolte post the WCC’s second-lowest GAA at 0.71 as Pepperdine allowed five goals in seven games. Two of those goals, however, were scored on penalty kicks while another was scored in overtime.
Pepperdine completed its 2008 campaign last Saturday with a 3-0 win over
The Waves won their final three matches of the year and finished with a 6-4-1 record at home. Pepperdine has yet to post a losing season in its 16-year history at Tari Frahm Rokus field, where its record stands at 103-35-17 (.719).
