Malibu, Calif. - Julius Hicks, who spent last year as the Director of Men's Basketball Operations at Stanford, was named an assistant coach at Pepperdine, head coach Vance Walberg announced on Wednesday.
Hicks replaces Ryan Miller who took a similar position at New Mexico.
During Hicks' only season on The Farm, Stanford compiled an 18-13 overall record, finished sixth in the Pacific-10 Conference with a 10-8 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinal was the No. 11 seed in the South Regional and traveled to Lexington, Kentucky, where it lost 78-58 to No. 6 seed Louisville in the opening round.
Prior to coming to Stanford, Hicks served as an assistant coach at West Valley College in Saratoga, California, for the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. During that time, he helped lead the team to two State Championships appearances, including a Final Eight showing in 2005 and the championship game in 2006.
As a player, Hicks was a two-year letter winner at Oregon from 1999-2001, serving as team captain as a senior. He helped the Ducks to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2000. Before transferring to Oregon, Hicks was an All-American and All-State selection at West Valley College.
After graduation, Hicks played professionally oversees from 2001-03. He played in Switzerland during the 2001-02 season went to South Korea for the 2002-03 campaign and played in Austria in 2002-03.
A Bay Area native, Hicks attended St. Ignatius High in San Francisco. He received a bachelor's degree in sociology from Oregon in 2001.
