MALIBU, Calif. (AP) - Sophomore forward Josh Heytvelt set career-highs with 27 points and 22 rebounds, while totaling six blocked shots, to lead Gonzaga to an 82-57 victory over Pepperdine Saturday afternoon at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Senior guard Derek Raivio added 21 points and junior guard David Pendergraft contributed 10 points and five rebounds for the Bulldogs (17-7, 7-1), who won their 12th straight game over the Waves (6-18, 2-6) dating back to the 2001-02 season.
Pepperdine senior guard Chase Griffin scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half to lead the Waves.
The Bulldogs on two big runs - an 18-0 surge in the first half and a 27-3 explosion in the second that put the game out of reach after they held just a 36-32 halftime.
Pepperdine was done in by season-low 29.2 percent (19-65) shooting from the field and was out-rebounded by a 49-20 count.
After trailing by as many as 12 points in the first half, Pepperdine mounted a late-first half rally with an 11-2 spurt to cut the deficit to four points at the break.
Gonzaga opened the second half with a 15-9 run to build a 10-point lead with 14:37 remaining and were never threatened the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs' biggest lead came with 2:58 remaining when they led 78-47.
Pepperdine returns to action on Monday when it hosts Portland at Firestone Fieldhouse beginning at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live by FSN Prime Ticket.
