NCAA Championship Match to Air Today at Noon on ESPN2

May 31, 2006

Malibu, Calif. - The NCAA Men's Tennis Championship will be televised today from 12:00-1:30 (PDT) on ESPN2. The Championship match saw No. 2 Pepperdine defeat No. 1 Georgia, 4-2, on May 23 at Stanford University's Taube Tennis Center to capture its first NCAA Men's Tennis title.

With its first No. 1 national ranking since 1986, head coach Adam Steinberg, who was recently named the Wilson/ITA National Coach of the Year, led the Waves to a 36-2 record.

The team avenged its two losses--Texas and Georgia--in the final two matches of the NCAA Championships. The team's 36 victories are the most ever for an NCAA champion since the team championship format was established in 1977.
