Alex Acker Taken By Detroit Pistons in NBA Draft

MALIBU, Calif. - Former Pepperdine guard Alex Acker was taken as the 60th-overall pick by the Detroit Pistons in Tuesday night's NBA Draft at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y. Acker was an early entry into this year's draft.
"The rounds just kept going and going," commented a relieve Acker from a hotel where 60 friends and family members had gathered for a draft-watching party. "I had an idea where I was going to be picked but I didn't know I was going to be the last one. But it doesn't matter. I am just blessed I got picked, its amazing! I can't wait to get out there and show my talents."
The 6-foot-5 Compton, Calif., native averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 45.7 percent during his three-year career as a Wave. During the 2004-05 season Acker was named to the CollegeInside.com Mid-Major All-American Team as well as an All-West Coast Conference selection.
Detroit pushed San Antonio to a decisive game seven in the NBA Championships after winning the Championship in 2004. The Pistons acquired their final second-round pick from Utah via Philadelphia.
