Malibu, Calif. - Following a March where the squad went 7-0, the Pepperdine men's tennis team rang in April in a similar fashion with a 6-1 win over Brown Friday. Brown stole only the number five singles point from the 15-2 Waves, as they fell to 13-4.
With Pepperdine leading 3-0 at the time, court three played host to the match's clinching point. Brown's Eric Thomas took a quick 6-0 first set from Pepperdine's Jonas Berg, before the Wave took control. Bouncing back, Berg took 6-3 and 6-4 sets to clinch Pepperdine's ninth consecutive win.
Pedro Rico appeared right at home playing on court one at the Ralphs-Struas Tennis Center for the first time seven matches. The junior closed out the first set 6-3 before playing a perfect second 6-0 against Adil Shamasdin.
Scott Doerner eased his was back onto court two, needing a little time to get acclimated before winning three games in a row to take the first set 7-5. His ground game found its mark in set two when he took a convincing 6-1 score to notch the win.
Senior Alexis Rafidison served and volleyed his way to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Michael Scherer on court six. Rafidison is now 7-1 in his last eight decisions.
At number four singles Richard Johnson survived a first set tiebreaker and a close second set for his 12th win of the year, 7-6, 7-5.
Brown avoided the shutout with the day's final match when Rich Moss held off Ivor Lovrak's comeback attempt. Moss got Brown on the board with his 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win at the number five position.
The teams of Doerner/Rico and Berg/Lovrak also secured wins to give the Waves the match's doubles point.
The Pepperdine men's team will host Harvard Saturday at 1:30 p.m., after the women's team take on the Crimson at 11:00 a.m.
