Malibu, Calif. - Pepperdine men's tennis player Scott Doerner joined four other Waves in receiving "Player of the Month" honors for February, the West Coast Conference announced Wednesday.
The junior posted a 4-1 singles record during the month, including a key straight sets win over then-No. 9 Alex Slovic in the Waves' upset of Washington. No. 53 Doerner was 2-0 against WCC opponents in February, taking matches in the number one position from Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount.
His 8-1 singles mark is the best on the team and a huge part of why Pepperdine has moved up to a No. 14 national ranking.
Pedro Rico joins Doerner as the two were named the "Men's Doubles Team of the Month." The pair posted a 4-1 record playing at the No. 1 doubles spot. They are currently ranked No. 21 in the ITA rankings and upset No. 18 Matalonga/O'Grady of Arizona, 8-4.
