Malibu, Calif. - The No. 11 Pepperdine men's tennis team rolled to its tenth win in eleven matches with a 4-0 defeat of visiting Miami at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on Wednesday. The Waves are now 11-2, while the Hurricanes drop to 7-6.
The match was called after Pepperdine secured the victory with Scott Doerner's singles win over Josh Cohen. Cohen held an early edge with a 3-2 lead in the first set before Doerner found his stroke. Pepperdine's Aussie then caught fire winning 10 of the match's 11 remaining games for the 6-3, 6-1 win.
Singles points were also won by Pepperdine's Ivor Lovrak and Alexis Rafidison. Lovrak won 6-2, 6-3 over Luis Manrique on court five. Rafidison took out Vivek Subramanian on court six, 6-1, 6-2.
The Waves took the quick advantage in doubles when Pedro Rico and Doerner beat Cohen and Eric Hechtman, 8-4 and the team of Kevin Borzenski and Richard Johnson defeated Ryan Waits and P.J. Passalacqua, 8-3.
Pepperdine will look for its sixth straight win Friday when it hosts No. 57 Purdue. The match has been moved to a 12:30 p.m. start time at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
