Malibu, Calif. - Sunday's skies would not stay clear long enough for the Pepperdine-Arizona men's tennis match to be completed in Malibu. After one brief rain delay, Pepperdine claimed the doubles point before rain hit the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center again. At this time the match has been postponed in hopes that the two teams will be able to complete the contest at a later date.
In the three doubles contests, Pepperdine secured the point with wins at the one and two positions. Pedro Rico and Scott Doerner broke away from Arizona's Roger Matalonga and Colin O'Grady after a 3-3 tie early in the set. Pepperdine took six of the last seven games to win 8-4. The rain delay hurt the Waves on court three where Arizona won all three games following the break to take the set 8-6. The deciding match would be won by Ivor Lovrak and Jonas Berg, 8-5 to give the Waves the point.
Unfortunately, the skies opened up for a second time showing no signs of relief. Head coach Adam Steinberg and UA's Bill Wright decided to try to reschedule the match later on in the season.
The 17th-ranked Waves will be at Loyola Marymount at noon on Wednesday before departing for their Texas trip this weekend. Pepperdine will take on the top-ranked Baylor Bears Friday before visiting SMU on Saturday.
