Malibu, Calif. - The second day of the ITA Regionals tournament play concluded on Thursday at Pepperdine University's Malibu campus. Top seeds advanced to the third round as competition continued into the evening.
In singles play, Pepperdine's Ivor Lovrak easily reached the third round as he defeated Trevor Dobson of UC Irvine 6-1, 6-1 and Matt Ozurovich of San Diego 6-0, 6-3. Lovrak will face UCLA's Ben Kohlloeffel, the nation's No. 3 player, Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. Kohlloeffel is seeded first in the tournament, while Lovrak is seeded ninth.
Pepperdine's Richard Johnson beat Oscar Plotnik of San Diego 7-5, 6-1 to represent the Waves in the third round when he takes on Daniel Andrus of Arizona. Match time is set for 9:30 Friday morning.
Pepperdine's Pedro Rico, No. 10 in the country and the second-seed player in the tournament, will square off with Arizona's Claudio Christen. Rico defeated LMU's Matt Fortune in the first round 6-0, 6-1 and then handed UCLA's Jeremy Drean a 7-5, 6-3 defeat.
The No. 1 doubles duo of UCLA's Kohlloeffel and Gruendler had no trouble advancing to the third round where they will face Christen and Bruno Alcala of Arizona in a 2 p.m. match on Friday. The Waves duo of Rico and Lovrak will see action against USC's Adam Loucks and Garrett Snyder also playing in a 2 p.m. match. Arizona's Andrus and Roger Matalonga, the tournament's second-seed team, will face Nico Terrien and Mike Wojnarowicz of LMU.
