High Seeds Hold Serve in Day Two at ITA Regionals

Malibu, Calif. - The sun hid behind the clouds to make for a chilly day two at the ITA Regionals, which are being held in Malibu, Calif. on Pepperdine's campus. The quarterfinals of singles begin Saturday morning at 9:30 and the semifinals of doubles are scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

The No. 1-seed Ben Kohlloeffel of UCLA advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Pepperdine's Ivor Lovrak 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. He will face teammate Chris Surapol Saturday morning. Also representing UCLA in the quarterfinals is Mathieu Dehaine, who beat Arizona State's Chris Biro 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. Dehaine will face his second competitor from Arizona State, Ryan McBride.

Pedro Rico of Pepperdine, the tournament's No. 2 seed, will face San Diego State's Robert Sabo, while Pepperdine teammate Richard Johnson is set to play Roger Matalonga of Arizona.

Semifinals are scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

In doubles play, UCLA duo Jeremy Drean and Chris Surapol knocked off the No. 2-seed Daniel Andrus and Roger Matalonga of Arizona 8-6 and will see an all-UCLA semifinal match when they face teammates Aaron Yovan and Mathieu Dehaine at 3:30 p.m.

The No. 1 seed of Kohlloeffel and Phillip Gruendler will face the No. 3 seed Rico and Lovrak in a match also set to start at 3:30 pm.
