Malibu, Calif. - The nationally-ranked Pepperdine men's tennis team will host the 2005 ITA Regionals this weekend at the Ralphs-Stratus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. Teams from the south region including UCLA, USC, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Arizona, Arizona State, LMU, San Diego, and San Diego, San Diego State and the host Pepperdine Waves. Competition for the singles qualifying round will begin today, Wednesday, October 19 with the main draw commencing Thursday morning and continuing through Sunday.
Representing the Waves will be seniors Kevin Borzenski, Ivor Lovrak, nationally-ranked player Pedro Rico, junior Richard Johnson and newcomers Peter Luck and Troy Aiken.
In today's qualifying round, freshman Peter Luck will face UCLA's Jaysen Chung in a 10:30 a.m. match in the first round. The winner of that match will play Brody Hagen of UC Santa Barbara in a 1 p.m. match. Troy Aiken has a bye in the first round and will square off with Jason Nguyen of UCLA today at 10:30 a.m.
In the singles main draw beginning Thursday, Lovrak will face Trevor Dobson of UC Irvine at 9 a.m., while Borzenski will face Jason Labrosse of Arizona at noon. Richard Johnson will compete against UC Santa Barbara's Max Taylor at 10:30 a.m. Rico has a bye in the first round and will look to face the winner of Aaron Ellis of UC Irvine and Jeremy Drean of UCLA in a 12 p.m. match in the second round.
In the doubles main draw beginning Wednesday afternoon, Lovrak and Rico are scheduled to face Jonas Mouly and Oscar Plotnik of San Diego in the second round at 4 p.m on Thursday, while Borzenski and Johnson will face UC Irvine's Shimpei Suzuki and Douglas Taylor on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Newcomers Luck and Aiken will square off against San Diego's Mirza Koristovic and Tom Liversage on Thursday at 5 p.m. after a bye in the first round.
