Kyla Maher, Sam Hudson Lead Waves at UC Riverside Invitational

Riverside, Calif. - Junior Kyla Maher and sophomore Sam Hudson led their respective teams at the 25th annual UC Riverside Invitational that was held Saturday morning at the Orange Grove Course in Riverside.

Maher was the top finisher in the women's five-kilometer run, placing 39th in a time of 19:17.40 to help the Waves to an 11th place finish in the 14-team event. Pepperdine concluded the run with 289 points.

Cal State Fullerton won the race with 86 points while San Jose State placed second with 102 points. Concordia (110) was third followed by Southern Utah (117) and Cal Poly (120).

Concordia's Natalie Perkins won the race, completing the course in a time of 17:23.50.

On the men's side, Hudson was Pepperdine's top finisher as he posted a time of 27:02.10 to place 47th in the eight-kilometer race.

The Waves finished 10th in the 10-team event that was won by Cal Poly, which totaled 51 points. Concordia (70) was second followed by host UC Riverside (80), Southern Utah (93) and Pomona Pitzer (106).

Southern Utah's Jesson Baumgartner captured the men's race in a time of 24:29.

Pepperdine has two weeks off before returning to action on Saturday, October, 8, when it competes in the Cal Poly Invitational in San Luis Obispo.
