Malibu, Calif. - Pepperdine men's tennis started off its 2005 season on the right foot Saturday by beating St. Mary's 6-1 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The Waves are 1-0, while the Gaels drop to 0-1.
After sweeping the doubles matches the Waves took to singles behind Scott Doerner in the number one position. Doerner made quick work of Saint Mary's top offering, beating Martin Marechal 6-0, 6-1.
The most dominant performance of the day came from Pepperdine's lone senior Alexis Rafidison. Rafidison cruised to a perfect score over J.J. Whitlinger, beating him 6-0, 6-0.
Both Jonas Berg and Kevin Brozenski handed out love sets in their matches as well. Berg won 6-3, 6-0 in his first collegiate tennis match while Borzenski won 6-0, 6-4.
Saint Mary's lone point came from Adam Fauvre's victory over Ivor Lovrak, 7-5, 7-6.
The Waves travel to USC to take on the Trojans at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday before returning home to play two matches on Saturday. The Waves start off with Cal Poly at 10:00 a.m. before taking on Santa Clara at 2:00 p.m.
