Pepperdine's Rico, Doerner Earn ITA National Ranking

Sept. 20, 2004

MALIBU, Calif. - Juniors Pedro Rico and Scott Doerner open the 2004-05 tennis season as the 8th- and 125th-ranked singles players, respectively, while the duo opens 23rd in doubles. For Rico it is his highest-ever ranking, for Doerner it is his first.

Rico, a 2004 All-American, concluded the 2004 season with a #19 ranking in singles, while he, along with Calle Hansen, finished the year as the 18th-ranked doubles team after falling in the "Elite Eight." Rico's singles season ended in the round of 16.

For Doerner, this year's preseason ranking is the first of his career.

The two will open the fall season Oct. 7 in Chattanooga, Tenn. where Rico will enter the ITA All-American Championships as the No. 8 seed, while Doerner will play in the seeding rounds. As a doubles team, they will be the second alternate pair for the 32-team draw.
