STANFORD -- The No. 25 Pepperdine men's tennis team dropped its final regular season match of the 2004 season, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon against No. 11 Stanford and fell to 15-8 overall and 2-0 in West Coast Conference (WCC) play. The Cardinal improved to 15-6 overall and 4-1 in conference action.
The Waves' Scott Doerner won his fifth consecutive singles match when he crushed Phil Sheng (6-4, 6-3) at the No. 4 singles spot. The other Pepperdine point was received by Alexis Rafidison's victory over Carter Morris at No. 6. Rafidison won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
The No. 2 doubles team and 42nd-ranked Doerner and Alexandre Herrera defeated Sheng and KC Corkery, 9-8.
The Waves' No. 22nd-ranked Pedro Rico was forced to retire early because of an injury sustained.
Pepperdine will start the WCC Championships April 23, 2004.
