MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine's Pedro Rico won two matches and advanced to the Round of 16 in single's action Wednesday afternoon and then teamed up with Scott Doerner in doubles play where the duo also advanced to the sweet 16 at the Icy Hot ITA All-American in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The eighth-seeded Rico faced Southern Mississippi's David Canudas in the opening round of singles action. After dropping the first set, Rico bounced back and dominated the rest of the match prevailing in three-sets, 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2, to meet up against Greg Oullette of Florida. Rico wasted no time in advancing to the round of 16 pulling off the 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Rico's day wasn't over though as he, along with Doerner faced Adam Formanczyk and Cameron Marshall of Michigan State University. The duo would lead by as much as 6-1 in the match and hold on for the 8-4 victory and advance to the sweet 16.
The doubles team will be back in action tomorrow as it is scheduled to play against Ohio State's Scott Green and Ross Wilson, while Rico will open single's play with Ludovic Walter of Duke at 7:00 a.m. (PDT). For complete results visit www.itatennis.com.
