MALIBU, Calif. - The No. 27-ranked Pepperdine men's tennis team beat UC Irvine, 5-2, Friday afternoon at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The Waves extended their winning streak to 2-0 while the No. 72 Anteaters fell to 0-2.
Paced by the No. 7-ranked doubles team in the nation, Calle Hansen and Pedro Rico recorded a 9-8 (6) victory over Brian Morton and Jonathan Endrikat. The No. 2 doubles team of Scott Doerner and Alexandre Herrera downed Zoran Korac and Ryusuke Kashiwabara, 8-6, while Alexis Rafidison and Kevin Borzenski defeated Mustafa Ulukan and Peter Surapol, 8-1.
In singles action, Hansen won at the No. 1 position by toppling Endrikat, 6-2, 7-6 and Rico did his part by winning with ease over Korac, 6-3, 6-1. Herrera (6-2, 6-2) and Richard Johnson (6-2, 3-6, 7-5) earned the final points for the Waves by stopping Ulukan and Renouk Wijemanne.
Pepperdine returns to the court Friday at Northwestern beginning at 2 p.m.
