Shelley Wong wsa added to Delisha Milton-Jones' staff on Sept. 13, 2018 as an assistant coach. In her lone year with the Waves, Wong helped lead the team to a 22-win season, the program's best since 2002 and a Sweet 16 berth in the Women's National Invite Tournament.Â
Wong comes to Pepperdine after training players for CoachUp, a private basketball training service, as well as founding So Cal United Basketball in Huntington Beach, Calif., a four-team girls travel basketball and high school travel program.
"Shelley is going to bring a ton of experience, coming from the high school level and the AAU scene," said Milton-Jones. "We love fresh ideas and fresh ways of looking at the game. She's is going to come in and fit in really well. We are a young staff who are always learning, and her experience will fit right in."
Wong played her college basketball at The Colorado College, graduating in 2004. After graduating, Wong began coaching at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif. for one year before transitioning to high school basketball. Her first high school coaching job was at Fountain Valley (Calif.) High School coaching the girls Freshman/Sophomore team. In 2011, she moved from Fountain Valley to Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif. to head the girls JV team and assist with the girls varsity team. Her first varsity head coaching job was at Segerstorm High in Santa Ana, Calif., where she led the team to the second round of the CIF playoffs.
