Roland Jones Jr. spent the 2017-18 season as an assistant coach, working alongside his wife, head coach DeLisha Milton-Jones.

Before Pepperdine, Jones had been working with the Summer Pro League. As the head coach and general manager at the Dubai International Championships, he guided his team to a pair of third-place finishes and one second place from 2013-16. Jones also served as the league’s head international coach and director of player development from 2013-17.

Jones was a head coach in the West Coast Basketball League from 2011-13. He has also been the head coach and owner of the Nationwide All-Stars in the famed Drew League since 2010, leading the squad to seven straight playoff appearances.

Jones played both collegiately and professionally, with his professional career spanning more than a decade (1998-2010) and several different continents.

Domestically, Jones was invited to several different NBA camps, with the Vancouver (now Memphis) Grizzlies in 1999 as part of their Summer League squad, and with the Dallas Mavericks in both 2000 and 2001. He also played with the legendary Harlem Globetrotters in 2000. Jones has played in the American Basketball Association, Continental Basketball Association, Southwest Basketball League and International Basketball Association during his extensive career.

Internationally, Jones played for SVD Dortmund in Germany (1998-99), Tallin in Estonia (2000), Gaiteros de Zulia in Venezuela (2001), Batumi in the Republic of Georgia (2001-02), Kaunas in Lithuania (2003) and Metro de Santiago in the Dominican Republic (2005-06).

Jones had several stops during his collegiate career as well, playing first for Panola Junior College and then Cochise Junior College, before moving on to the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) and finally finishing up at Central Methodist College. He earned All-Conference first team and Missouri Valley All-Tournament honors as a senior at Central Methodist, and was All-Conference second team and the Newcomer of the Year in the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference the year prior at UAM. Jones also earned JUCO All-American recognition and was the JUCO All-Star Game co-MVP while at Cochise.
