Melissa Zornig spent two seasons (2016-17 and 2017-18) as the director of basketball operations for the Pepperdine women’s basketball program.
Zornig joined the Pepperdine staff after concluding a professional career with Keflavík in Iceland in 2015-16 and Gruner Stern in Keltern, Germany, during the 2014-15 season. Zornig had a distinguished professional career which included a national championship, several player of the week awards and being named to both country’s all-league teams.
Prior to her time in Europe, Zornig played her collegiate years at UC Santa Barbara, where she ended her career in 2013-14 as one of only 25 players in school history to score over 1,000 points. She also finished as UCSB’s third all-time free throw percentage leader at 81.4% and fifth all-time three-point leader with 148. She was named to the Big West All-Tournament and All-Conference teams.
Zornig played her high school years at Santa Margarita High School, where she received two CIF player of the year awards and was named to four All-State, All-County and All-CIF teams. She finished high school with 2,447 points and 242 three-pointers, which ranked 32nd and 22nd all-time in California state history.
Zornig has coached at the youth, club, high school and professional levels and has worked as a counselor and coach at many clinics including the Kobe Bryant, UCSB and Los Angeles Clippers Basketball Camps. She also has experience as a basketball referee.
