Lenoir Ramos, Jr. joined the Pepperdine men's tennis coaching staff in January, 2015.  He comes to the Waves’ family with a wealth of experience as a player and coach in collegiate and professional tennis.

“It’s an incredible honor and dream to be able to work for an institution like Pepperdine University,” said Ramos.  “I am very thankful to Head Coach Marcelo Ferreira and Athletic Director Dr. Steve Potts for giving me this opportunity.  I cannot wait to get to work and help the team accomplish all their goals.”

Most recently, Ramos was an assistant coach with fellow West Coast Conference program, Pacific.  Prior to Pacific, he was a women’s tennis assistant at University of Nevada Las Vegas, where he helped the Rebels to a Mountain West Conference championship and a bid in the NCAA Tournament in 2013.  During his years at UNLV, he coached two pairs of regional champions in 2012 and 2013, Aleksandra Josifoska and Lucia Batta.

In 2014, he was the High Performance Tennis Coach and ITF Juniors Traveling Coach in Boca Raton, Fla.  While there, he served as hitting partner for several professional players at the Evert Tennis Academy.  Also from 2012-14, he served as the Tringle Tennis Club Junior Program Assistant Director.

Prior to his stint in Florida, Ramos also served as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater, Texas Tech University, from 2009-10.  He played under Ferreira at Texas Tech, graduating in 2010 with a degree in Exercise and Sports Sciences.  As a player, Ramos was one of the top singles and doubles players in the Big 12, helping the team to a No. 17 ranking in 2008.

“I am very excited to have Lenoir join the Waves,” said Ferreira.  “Lenoir and I go way back to 2007 when he played for me at Texas Tech.

“He was actually my first recruit in the NCAA Division I.  Since then, we have built a very strong friendship based on trust and respect.  His knowledge of the game and passion for coaching will be key to the development and success of our team.”

Ramos played as a professional on Tour for six years, earning a personal-high ranking of 625 by the ATP.  He played against several top 100 players including Andy Murray, Juan Martin Del Portro and posted his career-best victory against Simon Bolelli, the 2015 Australian Open Doubles Champion.

As a junior player, he was ranked in the Top 50 in the world on the ITF rankings, competing in the French Open, a grand slam event, in 2002 and 2003.  Throughout his U12, U14, U16 and U18 age brackets, Ramos was the number one ranked player in his age group.
