The Pepperdine men’s tennis team, led by head coach Marcelo Ferreira, deepened its coaching ranks in the fall of 2016, as the Waves added former UCLA standout Karue Sell as a volunteer assistant coach.  Sell begins his second season with the Waves in 2017.

Sell finished his career with the Bruins with a 104-31 overall singles record, including a 78-15 record in dual matches, and a 90-41 overall doubles record, including a 63-29 record in dual matches.  His highest Oracle/ITA rankings were #64 in singles and #29 in doubles.  His best campaign came in his senior 2016 season, when he went 21-2 in singles dual matches.  He went 27-3 as a freshman, 14-3 as a sophomore and 16-7 as a junior throughout his tenure at UCLA.

In 2015-16, Sell earned All-Pac-12 second team honors and went 30-6 overall in singles and 23-12 overall in doubles with partner Joseph Di Giulio.  He tabbed his 100th career singles win against Stanford’s Nolan Paige in the Pac-12 Tournament semifinals.  Sell helped lead the Bruins to a NCAA semifinal appearance after the team beat Stanford, fellow West Coast Conference opponents San Diego, and Weber State to move along in the tournament.

In the 2014-15 campaign, he went undefeated in conference play with a 5-0 record in singles and a 4-0 mark in doubles, ranking as high as #67 in the singles rankings in the fall.  He earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention status in the spring.

The 2013-14 season was an excellent year for Sell, earning All-Pac-12 honorable mention accolades and finishing the season with a 23-7 overall singles record and a 14-3 dual singles record.  In doubles, he played the majority of the year in the No. 1 doubles position alongside Marcos Giron, finishing with an 8-3 dual doubles output.

In his premier campaign on the courts in 2012-13, Sell was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team at No. 6 singles and No. 2 doubles with partner Adrien Puget.  He ranked second on the team in singles wins after sporting a 31-8 overall record and he led the Bruins in dual match singles wins after registering a 27-3 record.  He won 18 of his last 19 matches to close out the season and went undefeated in NCAA Tournament play, going 5-0.  He led the team in overall and dual match doubles wins with 24 and 21 respectively, and he ranked as high as #29 in doubles nationally after going 17-3.

His first season with UCLA was 2011-12, where Sell redshirted the season after joining in March, 2012.  Prior to college, he played in three-of-four junior Grand Slam tournaments, seeing action at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and the U.S. Open Championships.  He reached the semifinals in doubles with American Mitchell Krueger at the 2011 Australian Open and his best Grand Slam singles showing came when he reached the round of 16 at the 2010 U.S. Open.

Originally from Jaragua do Sul, Brazil, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography at UCLA.
