Cross Country to Run Four Races at UC Riverside Invitational

MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine cross country will compete in its second event of the 2026 season tomorrow, Sept. 19. The squad heads east for the UC Riverside Invitational, with the first race set for 7:15 a.m. All four races will take place at the 420-acre UCR Agricultural Operations (AgOps) Course.
The women's 6K invite will begin the morning, with 10 Waves set to compete. Among them are Lizzy Crawford and Grace Simpson as well as newcomers Mia Hodgson and Clara Michael.
The next event is the men's 8K invite, scheduled for 7:50 a.m. The Waves Invite-winning trio of Elijah Gentry, Gordy Nilsen, and Dominic Silhol are set to compete alongside four of their teammates.
Pepperdine also has entrants in the open races, too. The women's 5K will feature five Waves at 8:25 a.m. There are two men's 8K opens, set for 8:55 a.m. and 9:25 a.m. Seven orange and blue runners will compete.
Along with the host Highlanders, Pepperdine will face athletes from schools such as Cal Baptist (men's No. 24), UC Irvine, Utah Tech, USC, and more.
Tickets can only be purchased online. For those unable to attend, results will be available here.
Pepperdine last ran Sept. 4, when they swept the Waves Invitational. Lizzy Crawford finished first in the women's 4K (13:17.2) en route to winning West Coast Conference Cross Country Women's Runner of the Week for the second time in her career. On the men's side Dominic Silhol (18:27.7), Gordy Nilsen (18:27.7), and Elijah Gentry (18:27.8) tied for the 6K win.
The team made two visits to the AgOps course last year. The men turned in top-10 finishes at both races while Lizzy Crawford paced the women with two top-35 performances.
Santa Clarita, Calif. will next play host to the Waves. The Waves run in the Masters Invitational, Oct. 3, before returning to Riverside for the Highlander Invitational, Oct. 17.

The Pepperdine cross country/track program has a rich history dating back to the 1950s with six total individual national championships to come through the program. As one of the original three programs sponsored by then George Pepperdine College in 1937, the Waves immediately began to make a mark on the track world stage with eight total Olympians and multiple regional champions throughout the program's history.
